How to Choose the Right Security Camera — A Quick, Practical Guide
No single type suits every situation. Your choice comes down to four simple things: where you’ll install it, your budget, what you want to see and whether you want mobile access.
Start by identifying the location
For indoor areas such as a lounge, office or corridor, a dome camera is usually enough. For outdoor areas such as a gate, wall or exposed ceiling, choose a water-resistant bullet camera. If you want to cover a large area with one camera, PTZ is the right choice.
Choose the right resolution
2MP (1080p) is enough for entrances and homes. 4MP (2K) is better for shops and areas where you need to read number plates. Choose 5MP and above for large spaces where clearer detail is needed.
Wired or wireless?
Wired systems are more reliable and don’t suffer from connection dropouts. Wireless cameras are easier to install, but need a strong WiFi signal and work less effectively through thick walls. If you have strong WiFi and want quick installation, wireless is an excellent option. If reliability is your priority, choose wired.
Night vision and storage
If you want to monitor at night, make sure the camera has IR night vision covering at least ٢٠ metres. For storage, DVR is enough for homes and small shops. NVR gives you higher quality, while PoE means you need just one cable per camera.
DVR or NVR — Which Is Right for You?
This is a question our team hears every day. The simple answer is this: for a home or small shop, DVR is sufficient and more affordable. For a warehouse, large premises or higher image quality, NVR is the better choice.
DVR Recorder — For Traditional Cabling
- Works with wired BNC cameras
- The recorder and cameras cost less
- Suitable for ٤ to ١٦ cameras
- Coaxial cable installation is simpler
- HD or Full HD recording quality
- Suitable for homes and small shops
- Requires a separate cable for each camera
NVR Recorder — For Modern Technology
- Works with higher-quality IP cameras
- PoE provides power and data through one cable
- Suitable for ٤ cameras and above
- 4MP to 8MP recording quality
- Easy to expand — add cameras with ease
- Suitable for warehouses and large shops
- Higher-quality live streaming
The Fayad Al Dhahabi team can inspect your premises and recommend the right system before you buy. Visits are free within Jeddah.
Where to Install Security Cameras — The Best Places at Home and in Your Business
Camera placement determines how much of the area you can see. A camera in the wrong place won’t do much. Here are the positions we recommend:
Main entrance
The most important place in a home. A camera here captures anyone who rings the doorbell or tries to enter. Install it at a height of ٢.٥ to ٣ metres, covering the door and stairs.
Gate and car park
A water-resistant bullet camera at the gate helps deter attempted break-ins. If you have an exposed car park, a second camera covering it gives you extra peace of mind.
Commercial shop — counter and entrance
A camera at every entrance plus one covering the counter provides complete coverage. Counter footage can resolve disputes with customers, while an entrance camera helps deter theft.
Open areas and warehouses
One PTZ camera can cover a large area instead of three or four standard cameras. In large warehouses, install it in an upper corner and zoom in as needed.
Brands We Stock
We supply surveillance equipment from globally recognised brands trusted in the Saudi security market. All brands are genuine and come with an official warranty from an authorised distributor:
Features of the Modern CCTV Cameras We Supply
Cameras in 2026 are a world away from older models. Technology has improved while prices have fallen. These are some of the features available on the cameras we stock at Fayad Al Dhahabi:
Mobile viewing
Open the mobile app to watch the live feed from anywhere in the world. You can also record and review previous footage easily.
Powerful night vision
IR lights provide visibility in darkness at distances of ٢٠-٤٠ metres. Some cameras can even show colour at night.
Motion detection
Get an instant phone alert when the camera detects movement. You can define specific areas and receive alerts for activity there.
Water and dust resistance
An IP67 rating means the camera can withstand rain and dust, making it suitable for outdoor use.
Two-way audio
Listen and speak through the camera using your phone. It’s useful at entrances for talking to visitors.
Smart storage
A hard drive records for ١٠-٣٠ days, depending on the cameras. Cloud storage is also supported if you need longer retention.

Yes. Most modern CCTV cameras work with a free mobile app. Connect the camera to WiFi during installation, then open the app to view the live feed from anywhere. Some cameras also offer motion alerts, sending a notification to your phone whenever movement is detected in a selected area.
For a small commercial shop covering ٥٠-١٠٠ square metres, ٤ cameras are usually enough — one at each corner, or covering the two entrances and counter. A four-camera system with DVR starts at ٨٥٠ riyals at Fayad Al Dhahabi, including everything. If the shop has a storeroom, add an extra camera there.

Yes. Most CCTV cameras have IR lights for night vision. A standard dome camera can see up to ٢٠ metres at night, while a bullet camera can reach ٣٠-٤٠ metres. Some advanced cameras offer colour night vision. Make sure you choose a camera with night vision if you need to monitor dark areas.
A DVR works with traditional wired cameras and is more affordable and practical for homes and small shops. An NVR works with IP cameras and provides higher image quality. PoE means each camera needs only one cable for power and data. For an ordinary home, DVR is enough. For a warehouse, large shop or higher image quality, choose NVR. We can inspect your premises and advise you free of charge.
The two most important locations are the main entrance and the outside staircase. After that, consider the gate and car park. Indoors, the lounge and majlis entrance are useful locations. The ideal camera height is ٢.٥-٣ metres, angled slightly downwards. The Fayad Al Dhahabi team can inspect your property and identify the best positions before installation.
